Wednesday, May 30, 2007Sketch #262 Today's sketch went through a fair amount of revision. This is the original version. After photographing the original, some flaws really jumped out at me. Among others, the eyes looked wrong, the jaw was too angular, the shading was bad, and the hair needed taming. The new version could still stand improvement, but I think it's a step in the right direction. Ted |

Wednesday, May 23, 2007Sketch #261 As I indicated I might in my previous post, I did do a tracing of last Friday's sketch, and here it is. The nose looks better positioned to me, and in general I think the head and neck came out better. I'm not sure about the eyes, though. I think they came out better on the original. Oh well :) Ted |

Friday, May 18, 2007Sketch #260 I think I did a reasonably good job drawing the eyes in this sketch, but the nose a bit out of position. I should see if I can improve it in a tracing. Ted |

Tuesday, May 15, 2007Sketch #259 This sketch was the second revision/tracing of an effort which I thought had some promise, although also some rather serious flaws. Even after tracing/revising twice, the head shape had some inappropriate bulges/angles, and the eyes didn't really match right. I did a few "mess warps" and Squiz manipulations as well as some lighting effects/adjustments in Corel Photopaint which helped (to some extent). The result is still way short of what I'd like ... Oh well, tommorrow is another day. Ted |

Thursday, May 10, 2007Sketch #258 As is often the case when I don't draw for a few days, my initial attempt to produce a decent sketch was pretty awful. The second revision was not a whole lot better. This is the third attempt. While still containing lots of room for improvement, it's at least much better than the first two tries. Ted |

Monday, May 7, 2007Sketch #257 In my previous post I indicated that I might do a tracing of that post's sketch. Well, I did, and here she is :) As is typical in such cases, I made numerous changes. She looks quite different than the original ... which is somewhat the whole point of doing a tracing. If all I wanted was an exact copy, I'd just use the scanner :) Ted |

Saturday, May 5, 2007Sketch #256 I think the subject of today's drawing ended up with a bit of an odd expression ... somewhere between a sad smile and a look of surprise. That being said, I think the basic shape of her face is the best of those I've posted this week. I might try a tracing at some point and see if I can improve the expression. Ted |

Wednesday, May 2, 2007Sketch #255 This sketch began as a tracing of that in yesterday's post. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but I do like the results of the second attempt better. Ted |

Tuesday, May 1, 2007Sketch #254 This sketch required some digital editing and lighting adjustments for best results. I tried to soften the lighting enough to cover a few flaws without going too far in terms of obscuring the underlying drawing. Ted |
