Thursday, April 26, 2007Sketch #253 Sometimes I like to draw collars with fairly abstract patterns such as the ones in this sketch and the one before. I like the atmosphere it adds, and it's pretty easy to do :) Ted |

Tuesday, April 24, 2007Sketch #252 Here's the first sketch with short, curly that I've posted in a long time. I should try that more often. Ted |

Friday, April 20, 2007Sketch #251 This sketch began as a tracing from that in Wednesday's post. As usual, I tried to make a few improvements. I like the hair better in the original (it's harder to get it right on tracing paper), but I prefer the way the expression came out on the second attempt. I think the new chin is an improvement as well. Ted |

Wednesday, April 18, 2007Sketch #250 I think the arched eyebrows on the subject of this sketch gives her a slightly ironic expression. Ted |

Monday, April 16, 2007Sketch #249 I tried holding this drawing up to the mirror a few times as I was working on it and studying the reflected image. I may start doing that with all of my sketches, as I found the added viewpoint helpful. Ted |

Friday, April 13, 2007Sketch #248: "Blue-eyed Lady" And the rest or her is blue too, of course :) I added the blue tint after scanning the original drawing. Ted |

Tuesday, April 10, 2007Sketch #247: "Melinda of the Meadow" I was particularly pleased with the way the ear turned out in this sketch. I won't claim it's the best ear anyone has ever done, but I think it might be my best so far :) Ted |

Saturday, April 7, 2007Sketch #246 I think the subject of today's post has a somewhat enigmatic look ... maybe a bit on the determined or grim side. Given what time of year it is, perhaps her expression could be explained by the following poem: It was early in April and Alice felt glum. For April 15 was soon bound to come. Her income tax forms she'd soon have to file. The thought was not one to give her smile. For to fill out those pages would take quite a while. Ted |

Thursday, April 5, 2007Sketch #245 Sketching the subject facing slightly to the right side of the page again, I think I got the head shape better than that in Tuesday's post, and I am happier with the overall result. As has often been the case after scanning, I couldn't resist the temptation to add some dramatic lighting and color, turning a more or less monochrome woman into a redhead in the process. Here is what she looked like before all that. Ted |

Tuesday, April 3, 2007Sketch #244 As I've noted previously, I have had less practice drawing the subject facing off to the right of the page than the left. Not having sketched this pose since March 12, I thought it high time I make another attempt and there she is :) Ted |

Monday, April 2, 2007Sketch #243 I felt this sketch could benefit from the addition of some color and lighting adjustments in the digital editing stage. If you want to see what it looked like before I made the adjustments, click here. Ted |
