Sketch #4

Here's sketch number 4. After doing most of the sketch in graphite pencil (as I generally do), I added some color to the lips with a red watercolor pencil and darkened the eyelines and lashes a bit using a charcoal pencil.

Sketch #3

I think I like her smile the best so far. The women in my previous two posts are smiling, but their smiles strike me as somewhat forced and artificial compared to this one.

So far all of the sketches I've posted have been pretty much the "straight ahead" pose. That will probably continue for a while as I want to learn to do one thing really well before I branch out too much, but I do intend to try other orientations eventually (profile, 3/4 and so on).
